Not All Mentors Are Created Equal
It helps to do your own research and really trust in your intuition when choosing the right mentor for you. To help you avoid a bad mentor- student experience, you should know what to expect and not expect from a great mentor from the start.
Here’s What You Can Expect From A Great Mentor:
- As an entrepreneur, it’s very easy to get sidetracked and distracted from getting the job done. It’s easy to NOT do the work because after all, YOU ARE the boss right?
- A great mentor holds you accountable for tasks you are responsible for. Accountability is not only a way to get you to perform ‘results producing actions’ on a consistent basis, but to keep you on track with necessary tasks so that you experience the best results possible!
- A great mentor is more than knowledgeable, but an expert in what they teach you
- Has actually done the work and walked the path themselves
- Is able to convey their message in a clear and concise manner that allows you to apply that knowledge for your own results
- Doesn’t push their agenda on you. They must understand that it’s about YOU, not them.
- Understands your needs, cares about your process, and sees you more than just a client, but relate to you as a friend as well
- Should not be ‘in it for the money’! Find a mentor who cares about your goals, and is genuine about helping you succeed. This is something your intuition can really help you with. Follow your gut when deciding on which mentor to work with.
Here’s What NOT To Expect From A Great Mentor:
- Don’t expect your mentor to be your therapist. Your time with your mentor should be focused on helping you achieve your goals, not listen to your complaints about why life sucks. (You laugh…but it happens A LOT!)
- Don’t expect your mentor to DO the work FOR you. If you don’t implement what you learn, then you’re not only wasting your time, you’re wasting their time as well
